00:00:15.913 --> 00:00:18.556
Welcome back to another Motivational Monday.
00:00:18.556 --> 00:00:25.603
My name is Dr Quinton Moore and today we're going to explore what it really means to pursue wisdom in life.
00:00:25.603 --> 00:00:33.572
We often think of knowledge and wisdom being the same thing, but they're quite different.
00:00:33.572 --> 00:00:38.087
Knowledge is about accumulating facts and information.
00:00:38.087 --> 00:00:40.231
Wisdom goes deeper.
00:00:40.231 --> 00:00:47.863
It's about truly understanding that knowledge through experience, taking risks and engaging your intuition.
00:00:47.863 --> 00:00:56.084
As the ancient Greek philosopher, aristotle said, wisdom is the combination of knowledge and common sense.
00:00:56.084 --> 00:01:04.665
In other words, wisdom isn't just about what you know, but how you apply that knowledge in practical and effective ways.
00:01:04.665 --> 00:01:09.989
Intelligence in book smarts will only get you so far.
00:01:09.989 --> 00:01:21.561
True wisdom involves having the judgment to use your knowledge to navigate life's challenges skillfully and at one step deeper.
00:01:23.224 --> 00:01:32.411
The Bible places high value on wisdom and understanding, often personifying wisdom as something to be diligently sought after.
00:01:32.411 --> 00:01:38.191
When we look at Proverbs 4 and 7, it states that wisdom is the principal thing.
00:01:38.191 --> 00:01:43.189
Therefore, get wisdom and in all you're getting, get understanding.
00:01:43.189 --> 00:01:51.168
The book of Proverbs is largely dedicated to imparting wisdom through short sayings about righteousness, justice and uprightness.
00:01:51.168 --> 00:01:56.290
When we look into the New Testament, jesus is referred to as the wisdom of God.
00:01:56.290 --> 00:01:58.665
That's 1 Corinthians 1 and 24.
00:01:58.665 --> 00:02:03.881
And the source of true wisdom is described as fearing the Lord Again.
00:02:03.881 --> 00:02:05.587
That's Proverbs 9 and 10.
00:02:05.587 --> 00:02:22.293
Now, when we look at James 3 and 17, it characterizes the wisdom from above as being first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.
00:02:23.479 --> 00:02:31.543
So as we pursue wisdom, it's also important to realign our goals, habits and sense of purpose.
00:02:31.543 --> 00:02:47.013
It's easy to become motivated by setting ambitious goals like getting a promotion, earning a degree or starting a business, but the truth is that motivation driven solely by those big goals often fades over time.
00:02:47.013 --> 00:02:54.072
Instead, we need to focus on developing positive habits and routines that align with our goals.
00:02:54.072 --> 00:03:01.021
Good habits create momentum and provide a foundation for sustained motivation over the long run.
00:03:01.021 --> 00:03:08.632
And, as the saying goes, good habits make time your ally and bad habits make time your enemy.
00:03:08.632 --> 00:03:18.944
Small habits like waking up early, exercising regularly and continually learning can yield huge dividends.
00:03:20.199 --> 00:03:24.730
But the pursuit of wisdom goes beyond just bettering ourselves.
00:03:24.730 --> 00:03:34.769
As Aristotle also said, the ultimate value of life depends upon awareness and the power of contemplation rather than upon mere survival.
00:03:34.769 --> 00:03:53.526
In other words, we need to look beyond our own needs and strive to use our talents to make a positive impact on others through service, when we align our unique skills with the needs of those around us, we derive a deeper sense of meaning, purpose and fulfillment.
00:03:53.526 --> 00:04:01.110
This ethos of service also extends to how we approach leadership and teamwork.
00:04:01.110 --> 00:04:19.831
Too often we view leaders as those barking orders from the top, but the wise leader recognizes that great leadership requires being a great follower first and having humility, empathy and emotional intelligence to understand the needs of the group.
00:04:20.839 --> 00:04:28.887
True leadership is about inspiring and uplifting those around us through your conduct, not asserting authority through position or power.
00:04:28.887 --> 00:04:37.843
So as you go about your week, I want to encourage you to reflect on how you can intentionally pursue wisdom.
00:04:37.843 --> 00:04:46.887
Don't just seek knowledge for knowledge's sake, but look for ways to apply that knowledge with good judgment to navigate life better.
00:04:46.887 --> 00:05:08.346
Develop uplifting habits to reinforce your motivation over the long term and use your talents not just for your gain but to positively impact others and, regardless of what role you may play, bring humility and service-oriented leadership to your work and relationships.
00:05:08.346 --> 00:05:17.593
Wisdom is truly the combination of knowledge, experience, good habits, purpose and people-centric leadership.
00:05:17.593 --> 00:05:30.687
It's a lifelong journey, not a destination, but a commitment to pursuing wisdom promises not only to make you smarter, but to enrich your life with deeper fulfillment and meaning.
00:05:30.687 --> 00:05:35.848
That is what Motivational Mondays is all about.
00:05:35.848 --> 00:05:39.826
I'm your host, dr Quinton Moore.
00:05:39.826 --> 00:05:41.720
Be out.
